Main purpose of the job

The Director of Renewable Technology Sonepar USA is responsible for strategically aligning technology solutions with the overarching goals of the Solar & E-Mobility business segments. This involves assessing, managing, and enhancing the organization's product portfolio in Solar and EV Charging technologies. The director is responsible for evaluating technology options, managing product life cycles, enabling sales associates, and staying informed about policy and incentive programs. By excelling in these key competencies, the director contributes to the growth, efficiency, and competitiveness of the organization in the dynamic renewable energy market.

Key Competencies

  • Technology Assessment. Conduct thorough analyses of current and prospective technology options in Solar & EV Charging, comparing and contrasting feature sets, benefits, and specifications. Participate in technical vendor trainings to remain up-to-date with the latest advancements. Engage with customers to gather feedback on product preferences and performance. Utilize insights to provide well-informed vendor and product recommendations, ensuring a comprehensive product portfolio.


  • Product Management.
    Foster strong relationships with product managers and application engineers at aligned vendors. Support OpCo Operations and National Solar & EV Purchasing with guidance on product life cycles, obsolescence, and roadmaps. Contribute to strategic decision-making around risk inventory by providing insights into the direction of technology and market trends.


  • Sales Enablement.
    Serve OpCo sales orgs as the subject matter expert for aligned vendor technologies in Solar and EV, simplifying complex feature sets for better understanding. Categorize and define product offerings by differentiators, create informative sales reference materials to aid our sales associates in making recommendations to customers. Assist Pricing and Product teams in creating and maintaining a standardized Bill of Materials (BOM) for key product lines, enhancing the efficiency of the quoting process.


  • Regulatory Affairs.
    Stay informed about changes in utility rate structures and certification requirements, advise on impacts to product lines. Identify and evaluate Solar and EV rebate and incentive programs, educate sales associates on opportunities, make recommendations to align our offering with approved equipment. Serve as the primary point of contact for prominent industry associations within critical markets, including CALSSA and SEIA


Minimum qualifications and work experience requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Renewable Energy, Business, or equivalent related work experience.

8+ years of progressive advancement and demonstrated success in Renewable Energy Market.

Proven track record in assessing renewable technologies, managing products, and enabling sales.

Advanced knowledge of leading Residential and Commercial renewable product offerings, specifically Solar Modules, Inverters, Racking, Storage and EV Charging.

Strong analytical acumen to translate technical information into actionable insights.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for productive collaboration with vendors, customers, and internal teams.

Deep understanding of evolving renewable energy market trends, policies, incentives, and certifications.

Strategic mindset with the capability to contribute to the direction of renewable technology offerings.

Strong project management skills and the ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment.

Leadership experience and the ability to mentor and guide teams.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software tools.

Ability to travel 30-40%.

Minimum education requirements:

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience.
