According to a recent article by Woods Mackenzie, solar is projected to continue growing over the next decade. During that time they expect the world to add at least 5.4 terawatts (TW) of wind and solar to reach a total of 8 TW. To put this into context, the Center for Global Sustainability at the University of Maryland reported that the world had about 2.1 TW of coal plants in operation as of 2023, and Statista shows natural gas power plant capacity of almost 2TW in 2022. This could mean that renewables will dominate the energy mix after the year 2034.
